I'm feeling inspired by so many things lately! Here is what got my goat this week!! ;)
1. Wow, I adore painted mill work and trim! Although Pantone named orchid the hot shade for 2014 I'm loving deep marine blue shades myself!! A client and I just chose a similar Clark + Kensington shade for a built in bar at their beach house...image via Canadian House + Home.
2. I'm ready to change my hair style a little bit. I tend to straighten my natural waves but I'd like to try and create larger, looser waves. I think I need to invest in a large barrel roller iron.
3. In all honesty when I'm working from home I wear casual shoes and comfy pants. When I head out for the night and/or have meetings I love to wear current fashions. These sandals are so fun and sexy!
4. This antique mirror, faceted pendant could be an alternative contender for my kitchen remodel...loving it!!
5. I've had a cold/cough for what feels like months now. I could use a detox and also need to add more greens to my diet. I need to find (unpack) my mixer and begin making green smoothies as a way to jump start my day. Here's the recipe: via

So I thought I'd delve right into a reader comment/question today......."why don't you show more of your work"? I often don't show my finished projects on Shelter and here's why: I'm very methodical about A. not only waiting to share my projects until they are finished to my liking! ( but I do love to post sneak peeks for you all ) B. I am keeping the big picture in mind, so see there is a method to my madness. I have some "exciting" things in the works that I cannot wait to share with you all!! The very large blogs and digital/print magazines have very strict policies regarding design reveals before they will print or share a story/design. In other words, they will not print or blog about a design if it has already been exposed. That is really the only reason I'm not sharing more of my work with you!! I'm very proud of my lil ole blog and love you all . If I share too many details on my blog the magazines won't publish them. Once the pictures of my new home and my other projects are all finished up I'll be happy to splash them all over Shelter!! In the meantime, hang tight, I promise you'll see more soon. I love all of the support, emails and comments you send my way! xoxo Here's another snapshot of a finished project by moi! Image by Sarah Winchester |
Last week my mind was on skiing (which was a blast by the way). It is always so fun try new experiences/trips/events together for the first time with a new "love". I hadn't been skiing since I had my children. My boyfriend and I had such a nice time. We stayed at the Woodstock inn and also my parent's house in Vermont. I can't wait to go skiing again at the end of the month...... It's been frigid for most of January so we've decided to go away. This time we are heading south. I can only escape for a long weekend, but a bit of warmth is better than none at all. I'll be sure to share my hypothetical packing list via a "love the look" post. Here's a bit of Florida style inspiration for you..bathing suit image is via Although, I don't see this adorable suit on the site. |
The next area in my new home that I'm tackling is this far wall in the kitchen. It is next to the dining table. Right now it is basically a BLANK (boring) slate. I painted the walls Clark + Kensington's "Illumination" (a new color due out in Spring 2014) it is a warm white shade with pale grey undertones. If you read my blog with any frequency then you'll recall I painted the main room and hallway a deep charcoal color. In contrast to that area I wanted the kitchen and sun porch area to be a crisp, light shade. I've decided to hang my over sized tack board on the far left wall. (see inspiration image) It'll be a great spot for invitations, inspirational photos, a calendar etc. I'm also going to paint the wall under the tack board with chalk board paint. It will create a little contrast but they are also pretty functional. (and fun for the kids). I have two metal bamboo chairs in black (plus six more that need a coat of paint). I'm planning to place those on either side of the marble table pictured above. This is also the area that I'm going to set up my bar. (cause this mama likes a pretty cocktail set up). Finally, I've ordered simple bamboo shades and am contemplating ordering this handblown glass light fixture in shiny nickel. (if I go with the nickel, I'm purchasing brass pulls for the kitchen cabinets)....I'll be sure to post the after pictures in a few weeks! I can't share all the details because I may be collaborating with a website/blog to feature a "final" reveal! But I'd love to continue to share some sneak peeks with you! |
I'm looking forward to a little apres ski weekend! I love warming my buns with a hot tottie and cozy fire after burning some major calories on a chilly mountain!! xx |
